Carolina: From Asylum Seeker to Securing Protection Under VAWA

Carolina fled her home country due to oppressive religious doctrines to seek asylum in the United States. Unfortunately, her request was denied, which led to her facing removal proceedings in immigration court. During her stay, she endured emotional and physical abuse from her U.S. citizen husband. Despite challenges, she applied for protection under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), though her case remains pending.

While facing deportation, Carolina found assistance at Justice for all Immigrants. After extensive negotiations with immigration officials, JFAI got her deportation proceedings dismissed. Carolina is now free from the immediate fear of deportation and waiting for a decision on her VAWA application.
